VTL CNC Machinist / Turner Miller

Location: Leeds

Salary: Highly competitive, flexible depending on experience

Hours: Full-time, permanent

Are you an experienced CNC Turner/Miller looking for the opportunity to develop onto specialist VTL machinery, or are you already an experienced VTL Machinist looking for your next move?

An established heavy engineering manufacturer in Leeds is investing further into its machining capability and is looking to recruit two skilled CNC Machinists to take ownership of its VTL / Vertical Turning machinery.

The business currently operates a VTL, with further investment into additional machinery planned. These are key appointments within the machine shop, and the business is prepared to be highly flexible on salary to secure the right calibre of machinist.

Previous VTL experience would be a major advantage, but it is not essential.

If you are a strong CNC machinist with solid turning and milling experience, good setting knowledge and the drive to learn specialist machinery, the business is willing to invest in your development.

What you'll be doing

  • Setting and operating CNC machinery.
  • Working across turning and milling operations.
  • Developing onto and ultimately taking ownership of VTL machinery.
  • Machining large, complex and high-value engineering components.
  • Working from detailed engineering drawings.
  • Selecting and setting tooling.
  • Setting offsets, speeds and feeds.
  • Working accurately to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Carrying out in-process inspection.
  • Troubleshooting tooling and machining issues.
  • Taking ownership of component quality throughout the machining process.

What we're looking for

We're interested in speaking with experienced machinists who have:

  • Strong CNC turning experience.
  • CNC milling experience.
  • CNC setting capability.
  • Good understanding of tooling and machining principles.
  • Ability to confidently read engineering drawings.
  • Experience working accurately to tolerances.
  • Competence using precision measuring equipment.
  • A practical, problem-solving approach.

Experience with VTLs, vertical turning centres, vertical borers, large-component machining or mill-turn machinery would be particularly advantageous.

More importantly, we're looking for somebody with drive, initiative and a genuine interest in machining. You should want to take ownership, continue developing technically and become the trusted person responsible for specialist machinery.

What's on offer

  • Permanent position with an established engineering manufacturer.
  • Highly competitive salary with genuine flexibility for the right person.
  • 40-hour working week.
  • Paid breaks.
  • Company pension.
  • Sick pay.
  • Specialist VTL training/development where required.
  • Technically challenging, high-value engineering work.
  • Continued investment in machinery and manufacturing capability.
  • Long-term opportunity to develop specialist machining expertise.

If you're an experienced CNC Turner/Miller or VTL Machinist looking for a role where your machining ability will genuinely be utilised, we'd like to hear from you.
