Full-time, 37.5 hours | Flexible working considered from 30 hours

Ready to take the next step in your finance career?

Are you a Management Accountant looking for progression into a broader Finance Manager role, where you can take greater ownership, work closely with the Managing Director and make a genuine impact on a business?

We're working with an established Scarborough business looking to appoint a Finance Manager to take responsibility for its day-to-day finance function and help shape its future development.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on with the numbers but is also keen to get more involved in the commercial side of a business.

You’ll work directly with the Managing Director, providing financial insight, supporting key decisions and helping to improve how financial information is used across the organisation.

With the support of an experienced Fractional Finance Director, there's plenty of opportunity to develop your skills, build confidence and grow into the position.

What will you be doing?

As Finance Manager, you'll oversee the day-to-day running of the finance function, taking ownership of financial reporting and supporting the wider business with planning, analysis and decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of monthly management accounts, ensuring accurate reporting and meaningful financial commentary.
  • Working closely with the Managing Director to provide financial information that supports business decisions.
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
  • Overseeing a small finance team, supporting their development and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day finance activities.
  • Reviewing financial performance, monitoring costs and highlighting opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Maintaining effective financial controls, reconciliations and reporting procedures.
  • Supporting year-end accounts, audit preparation and statutory requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve systems, automate processes and make financial reporting more efficient.

You’ll have the autonomy to take ownership of your responsibilities while benefiting from the guidance of a Fractional Finance Director when needed.

What are we looking for?

We’re keen to speak with experienced Management Accountants, Senior Management Accountants or existing Finance Managers who are ready for a new challenge.

You don’t necessarily need to have held the Finance Manager title before. What’s more important is your ability to take ownership, build relationships and bring a proactive approach to the role.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Strong management accounting experience, including month-end reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Good commercial awareness and the confidence to work closely with senior management.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience using financial systems.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and take responsibility for delivering accurate financial information.
  • Some experience supervising, mentoring or supporting colleagues, or the ambition to develop these skills.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach with an interest in improving processes.

You’ll ideally be AAT qualified, part-qualified or qualified through CIMA, ACCA or ACA, although we’re equally interested in candidates who have developed strong experience through their careers.

Experience working in an SME environment would be advantageous, particularly if you enjoy being involved in different areas of finance.

What's in it for you?

  • Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working: Initially three days in the Scarborough office, with the potential to reduce to two days once established, typically after six months.
  • Flexible hours: 37.5 hours full-time, with applications welcomed from those seeking 30 hours or more.
  • Career progression: An opportunity to step into a Finance Manager position and broaden your responsibilities.
  • Senior exposure: Work directly with the Managing Director and gain valuable commercial experience.
  • Professional support: Ongoing guidance from an experienced Fractional Finance Director.
  • Real influence: The opportunity to introduce ideas, improve processes and help shape the finance function.

Why consider this opportunity?

This isn't a role where you'll simply produce the numbers and pass them on.

You’ll have the opportunity to become a trusted finance contact for the Managing Director, develop your leadership skills and play an important part in how the business operates.

Whether you’re an experienced Management Accountant ready to step up or a Finance Manager looking for a more varied, commercially involved position, we’d be keen to hear from you.
