Responsibilities of the Practice Manager job include:
- Overseeing the day to day operations of the practice, ensuring efficient workflows across all departments
- Managing office administration, including premises, suppliers, health and safety, and business continuity
- Leading on all HR matters including recruitment, onboarding, appraisals, performance management, and staff development
- Supporting trainees and managing relationships with training providers
- Monitoring internal finances including WIP, billing, credit control, and monthly management accounts
- Working with Directors on budgeting, cashflow forecasting, and financial planning
- Overseeing IT systems and working with external providers to ensure systems are secure and effective
- Managing practice software and supporting adoption of new systems and processes
- Supporting client service delivery, including onboarding, engagement letters, and handling queries or complaints
- Leading on compliance, including AML, GDPR, and ICAEW regulatory requirements
- Supporting Practice Assurance visits and maintaining internal policies and procedures
Requirements of the Practice Manager job include:
- Previous experience in a senior administrative, operational, or practice management role
- Ideally experience within an accountancy practice or professional services environment
- Strong understanding of HR processes, employment law, and staff management
- Good financial awareness including billing, WIP, and credit control
- Knowledge of compliance areas such as AML and GDPR
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft 365 and practice software (e.g. CCH, Xero)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Desirable experience:
- Experience within a previous practice accountancy
- Relevant qualification such as AAT, CIPD, or similar
- Experience supporting compliance functions such as MLRO
