CNC Programmer

Location: Sherburn
Salary: £34,132 basic (£16.83 per hour) + Overtime Available
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

A leading manufacturing business is seeking a CNC Programmer to join its busy production team. Working within a specialist programming department, you'll play a key role in supporting production operations, ensuring work is programmed accurately, efficiently and delivered to demanding deadlines.

The Role

  • Create and maintain CNC programs for automated manufacturing machinery
  • Work closely with Production and CAD teams to ensure efficient workflow
  • Support production operations by resolving programming and manufacturing issues
  • Update and maintain programming records and material databases
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve manufacturing efficiency
  • Ensure production schedules and deadlines are achieved
  • Spend time both in the programming office and on the shop floor supporting operations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects across the manufacturing facility

About You

We are interested in candidates who have:

Essential

  • Previous CNC Programming experience OR strong CAD experience
  • Good computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment

Desirable

  • Experience using SAP
  • Experience working with automated machinery
  • Manufacturing or steel industry experience

Candidates with exceptional CNC operating experience and a strong desire to move into programming will also be considered.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • Initially day shifts
  • Flexibility to move onto a double-day shift pattern in the future

About the role:

As part of our CNC Programming team, and reporting to the Programming Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in supporting multiple business units within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Working at the heart of operations, you’ll collaborate closely with both Production and CAD teams to ensure all work is accurately programmed, efficiently scheduled, and delivered to meet tight deadlines.

This is a role where continuous improvement is key. You’ll take the lead in identifying ways to reduce scrap and waste within programming software, while driving smarter, more efficient processes that enhance overall performance.

Alongside your programming responsibilities, you’ll also be involved in the cutting and pressing of components within automated systems—helping to maintain high-quality standards and ensure consistent, reliable output across the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring Company policies, Health and Safety standards are adhered to.
  • Ensure compliance to the schedule, maximise output and effective use of materials Maintaining the required programming records.
  • The Material database for programmed jobs is up to date.
  • Machine Routings document is updated with the jobs you have programmed specified in project launches.
  • Shift reports are accurately compiled.
  • All tasks are completed within set time constraints.
  • Work alongside the Team Leader and Production

on their main Production KPI’s.

  • OTIF
  • Material Variance
  • Labour Variance
  • Most efficient route of manufacture

Escalate any material issues including shortages.

  • Escalate any design issues outside of standard product to your Team Leader Adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Team/Product development and improvement.

Requirements:

You don’t need to tick every box - enthusiasm, reliability and the right attitude matter just as much :

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Numeracy and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience of CNC Programming.( desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to use computers to a good standard.
  • Suitable SAP knowledge.
  • Operated automated machinery
