SME Finance Manager
Hull
Salary: Up to £40,000
Full Time | Permanent
A growing SME based on the outskirts of Hull is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of its finance function.
This is a hands-on role offering responsibility across all aspects of finance, from transactional processing through to management reporting, cash flow forecasting and supporting strategic business decisions. The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors and play a key role in maintaining strong financial controls and supporting future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the day-to-day finance function using Xero
- Producing monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Managing sales invoicing, credit control and customer accounts
- Processing purchase invoices and supplier payments
- Maintaining accurate purchase and sales ledgers
- Performing regular bank reconciliations
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Managing VAT compliance, including international transactions and multi-country shipping arrangements
- Processing payroll and pension administration
- RTI submissions and payroll compliance
- Managing statutory payments including SSP, SMP and other statutory entitlements
- Administering workplace pension schemes and auto-enrolment requirements
- Cash flow forecasting and monitoring
- Budget tracking and variance analysis
- Liaising with external accountants and advisors
- Supporting the preparation of year-end accounts
- Reviewing and improving finance processes and controls
About You
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 5 years' finance experience within an SME environment
- Strong experience producing management accounts
- Excellent knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping
- Previous payroll processing experience
- Strong understanding of VAT, including different VAT schemes and international trading requirements
- Experience of cash flow forecasting and budget management
- Advanced Xero experience
- The ability to work autonomously and manage a broad finance remit
