Technical Buyer

Castle Manufacturing are recruiting for a Technical Buyer to join a well‑established engineering and manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded procurement professional with a strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings and supplier management.
Working closely with production, engineering and suppliers, you will be responsible for sourcing technically complex materials, components and subcontract services, ensuring quality, cost and delivery objectives are consistently achieved.
The Role As Technical Buyer, you will:
- Source and procure direct and indirect materials, engineered components and subcontract services.
- Manage the full purchasing process from RFQ through to delivery.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times and commercial agreements with suppliers.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to support long‑term business objectives.
- Monitor and improve supplier performance, focusing on quality, delivery and compliance standards.
- Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to ensure purchased parts meet requirements.
- Expedite urgent orders and proactively manage supply chain risks.
- Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cost reduction and value improvement.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records within the ERP/MRP system.
- Resolve supplier invoice queries promptly to support effective cash flow management.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a Technical Buyer, Buyer or Procurement role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience using ERP and MRP systems
Desirable
- CIPS qualification or working towards CIPS.
- Engineering qualification or technical manufacturing background.
- Experience purchasing fabricated, machined or engineered components.
The role is commutable from York, Pickering, Malton, Scarborough, Redcar, Thirsk and surrounding areas
