Manual Lathe Turner Bradford, West Yorkshire 30,000 - 40,000 DOE Permanent Days Early Friday Finish

Castle Employment Group is recruiting an experienced Manual Lathe Turner to join an established precision engineering company based in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Manual Turner who enjoys working on large, varied engineering components and is looking for a permanent, days-based position with flexible working hours and an early Friday finish.

The role will primarily involve setting up and operating a Broadbent Stanley manual lathe with a 4-metre bed, machining large, often heavy workpieces to precise engineering specifications.

With a variety of materials, components and machining processes, this position offers plenty of variety, alongside opportunities to utilise additional CNC milling, turning and inspection skills.

The Role

  • Setting up and operating a large Broadbent Stanley manual lathe.
  • Machining large and heavy components to engineering drawings.
  • Working to specified tolerances, dimensions and surface finishes.
  • Selecting appropriate tooling, speeds and feeds for different materials.
  • Carrying out dimensional checks and quality inspections.
  • Working with a wide variety of materials and engineering components.
  • Supporting other workshop activities, including CNC milling and inspection, where required.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on manual lathe turning experience.
  • Confidence setting up and operating manual lathes independently.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.
  • Good knowledge of machining tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Experience working within a precision engineering or machining environment.
  • A flexible, practical approach to workshop activities.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience machining large or heavy components.
  • Experience operating Broadbent or Stanley lathes.
  • CNC milling experience, particularly Haas.
  • Mazak CNC turning or Mazatrol programming experience.
  • Engineering inspection experience.

A recognised engineering apprenticeship or relevant qualification would be beneficial, although candidates with strong practical experience will also be considered.

Manual turning experience is the priority. CNC experience is an advantage, not a requirement.

Salary & Benefits

  • 30,000 - 40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • 37.5-hour working week.
  • Monday to Friday, days only.
  • Early finish every Friday.
  • Flexible start and finish times.
  • Christmas bonus.
  • Overtime opportunities depending on workload.
  • Workplace pension scheme.
  • Annual leave entitlement with additional days awarded for long service.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 7:45am - 4:30pm
  • Friday: 7:45am - 12:00pm
  • Flexibility available around working hours.

Interested? If you're an experienced Manual Lathe Turner looking for a permanent opportunity in Bradford where you can work on varied, challenging components and make full use of your machining skills, we'd love to hear from you.
