Castle Employment Group is recruiting an experienced Technical Manager for an established food manufacturing business in North Yorkshire. This is a key site leadership role with responsibility for food safety, legality, quality and technical standards within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Reporting into the Senior Operations Manager, you’ll lead the site Technical function and work closely with Production, Engineering and other operational teams to maintain high standards, resolve issues at source and drive continuous improvement.
The Role
- Leading food safety, quality and technical standards across the site
- Managing quality control across production, storage and distribution
- Overseeing microbiological, nutritional, environmental and shelf-life testing
- Leading root cause investigations into testing failures, non-conformances, deviations and customer complaints
- Identifying trends and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions
- Reviewing and strengthening testing protocols and sampling plans
- Working closely with Production and Engineering to resolve quality issues at source
- Monitoring CCPs and critical production processes
- Developing and improving technical systems, procedures and working practices
- Acting as the technical lead for customer and external audits
- Managing the internal audit programme and ensuring actions are completed
- Maintaining product specifications and technical documentation
- Supporting traceability exercises and product withdrawal or recall procedures
- Overseeing hygiene standards and chemical control systems
- Ensuring chemicals are managed in line with COSHH requirements
- Working with operational teams to improve cleaning effectiveness while controlling chemical usage and cost
- Evaluating and implementing new technical and laboratory equipment and testing methods
Leadership
You’ll lead, coach and develop the Technical team while working cross-functionally to embed a strong food safety and quality culture throughout the site. You’ll also support the delivery of training around hygiene, GMP and technical standards, ensuring food safety is understood and owned across the wider operation.
About You
We’re looking for an established Technical Manager with strong experience within food manufacturing. You’ll need a solid understanding of food safety, quality management systems, audits, HACCP, GMP, root cause analysis and corrective actions, alongside the leadership skills to manage and develop a Technical team. You’ll be comfortable operating within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, working closely with Production and Engineering and challenging standards where required. You’ll also need to be confident leading customer and external audits and managing technical issues through to resolution. This is an opportunity to join a business that is investing further resource into its Technical function and is looking for an experienced Technical Manager who can take ownership, strengthen systems and have a genuine impact on site standards.
