A growing SME based on the outskirts of Hull is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of its finance function. This is a hands-on role offering responsibility across all aspects of finance, from transactional processing through to management reporting, cash flow forecasting and supporting strategic business decisions. The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors and play a key role in maintaining strong financial controls and supporting future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day finance function, including sales and purchase ledgers, invoicing, credit control and bank reconciliations.
- Produce monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, budgets and financial reports.
- Prepare VAT returns, payroll, pensions and ensure statutory compliance.
- Support year-end accounts and liaise with external accountants and advisors.
- Monitor financial performance, improve processes and maintain robust financial controls.
- Oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the office, including facilities, suppliers and office administration.
- Support HR administration, onboarding, company policies and health & safety records.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the senior leadership team while helping to drive business efficiency.
About You
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 5 years' finance experience within an SME environment.
- Strong experience producing management accounts.
- Excellent knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping.
- Previous payroll processing experience.
- Strong understanding of VAT, including different VAT schemes and international trading requirements.
- Experience of cash flow forecasting and budget management.
- Advanced Xero experience.
- The ability to work autonomously and manage a broad finance remit.
