Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for a role with more variety, ownership and the opportunity to broaden your finance experience?
A growing business in Leeds is looking for a Payroll Officer to join its team and take responsibility for delivering an accurate and dependable payroll service.
This is more than a straightforward payroll processing position.
You’ll become a key contact within the business, work closely with the wider finance team and have the opportunity to help improve processes as the organisation continues to grow.
It's a great opportunity for someone who is confident working in a busy, high-volume payroll environment and is ready to take on broader responsibility.
What you'll be doing
You’ll take ownership of the day-to-day payroll cycle, making sure people are paid correctly and that deadlines are consistently met.
- Take responsibility for preparing and delivering both fortnightly and monthly payrolls from start to finish
- Keep employee pay information up to date, covering new starters, leavers, pay changes and other amendments
- Check payroll information carefully, investigate discrepancies and complete reconciliations ahead of payment
- Ensure PAYE, statutory payments and HMRC reporting requirements are handled correctly and on time
- Be a knowledgeable and approachable contact for colleagues who need help with pay, deductions or payroll-related questions
- Work closely with the wider finance team, providing accurate payroll information for reporting and business needs
- Help maintain effective payroll controls and support audit and compliance activity
- Look for opportunities to make payroll processes simpler, more efficient and easier to manage as the business grows
- What you'll bring
We're particularly interested in hearing from people who are comfortable working with high-volume payrolls and understand the importance of getting both the detail and the deadlines right.
You’ll bring
- Hands-on experience within a busy, high-volume payroll environment
- A sound understanding of UK payroll processes, PAYE and statutory requirements
- Confidence working with detailed information and identifying errors before they become problems
- The organisation to manage competing payroll deadlines and priorities
- A practical, solutions-focused approach when dealing with payroll queries
- Confidence communicating with colleagues across different areas of a business
- A professional approach to handling confidential employee and financial information
Experience using Sage would be useful, but isn't essential.
You may also have exposure to pensions and auto-enrolment, multiple payrolls or payroll improvement projects.
A CIPP qualification would be welcomed, but none of these are essential for the role.
What's in it for you?
Alongside a salary of £30,000, you'll receive
- Company pension
- Private medical insurance
- Life insurance
- On-site parking
- Paid volunteer time
- A permanent, full-time position
- A varied role combining payroll responsibility with wider finance exposure
- The opportunity to contribute to improvements as the business continues to grow
This is a full-time, fully office-based role in Leeds.
If you're looking for your next Payroll Officer opportunity and want a position where you can take real ownership of payroll while developing broader finance experience, we'd like to hear from you.
