Job Description

Technical Assistant Manager

The Technical Assistant Manager supports the Technical Manager in delivering food safety, quality, and compliance.

This role combines hands‑on quality assurance, processing team supervision and coordination of testing, audits and hygiene systems in a fast‑paced production environment.

Reporting to: Technical Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Testing
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records of microbiological, nutritional testing, environmental monitoring and shelf-life testing.
  • Assist and coordinate sample preparation and submission.
  • Chemical and Hygiene Control
  • Maintain and manage chemical and laboratory consumables stock.
  • Support production and processing teams to ensure effective cleaning and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical registers.
  • Equipment and Testing Support
  • Assist in sourcing and obtaining quotations for laboratory and equipment.
  • Support installation, validation, and calibration of testing equipment.
  • Liaise with external laboratories for additional testing requirements.
  • Maintain and manage equipment calibration and service records.
  • Compliance and Audits
  • Support internal audits and preparation for external and customer audits.
  • Maintain and manage internal controlled documentation system.
  • Operational and Factory Support
  • Partner with production teams to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Assist with improving and developing systems and procedures.
  • Staff Management and Supervision
  • Management and supervision of Processing department staff.
  • Undertake rota planning to ensure adequate shift coverage.
  • Manage and monitor absence, including return‑to‑work processes.
  • Carry out probation reviews and performance management.
  • Oversee and control holiday allocation to maintain operational continuity.
  • Provide day‑to‑day guidance, coaching, and support to team members.
  • Maintain Processing staff training records.
  • Support the Technical Manager in driving a strong food safety culture.
