Job Title: PMLD Teaching Assistant
Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Job Type: Long-term, ongoing
Working Pattern: Full-time opportunities available
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you a patient, caring and compassionate person who wants to make a real difference to the lives of children with profound and multiple learning difficulties?

Castle Education is working in partnership with 3 specialist schools in the Harrogate area, to recruit PMLD Teaching Assistants for long-term, ongoing roles.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in specialist education, develop their experience and become a consistent, trusted member of a school team.

We understand how important job security and regular hours are, which is why we are recruiting for ongoing placements with consistent work and guaranteed hours available, rather than simply offering occasional day to day supply.

A little bit about the school
This is a specialist school in Harrogate for children and young people aged 2-19 with profound and multiple learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities and other complex needs.
The school provides a nurturing and inclusive environment where learning is personalised and every pupil is encouraged to develop their communication, independence and life skills at their own pace.

What will the role involve?

  • Providing individualised support to pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
  • Supporting communication through gestures, symbols, objects of reference and other appropriate methods.
  • Helping pupils access sensory activities and engaging learning experiences.
  • Encouraging interaction, independence and participation throughout the school day.
  • Supporting pupils with personal care and mobility where required.
  • Following individual care, learning and support plans.
  • Working closely with teachers and other support staff to meet pupils' needs.
  • Creating a calm, safe and positive environment where pupils feel secure and valued.

What are we looking for?

  • A caring, patient and nurturing personality.
  • Experience supporting children or adults with complex needs would be beneficial.
  • An understanding of the importance of communication, sensory engagement and individualised support.
  • Someone who is comfortable supporting personal care where required.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a willingness to learn.
  • A reliable and committed approach to a long-term role.

Previous experience within a PMLD or specialist school setting would be advantageous, but we would also welcome applications from people with relevant care, support work, nursery or healthcare experience.
The right attitude is incredibly important. You do not need to have all the answers from day one, but you do need to be compassionate, observant and committed to helping every pupil feel safe, included and supported.

What can Castle Education offer you?

  • Long-term, ongoing work within specialist education.
  • Consistent work with guaranteed hours available.
  • The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Experience working with a specialist team.
  • Support from Castle Education throughout your placement.
  • A rewarding role where even the smallest achievements can mean so much.

If you are looking for a role where your patience, kindness and commitment can genuinely change someone's day, this could be the opportunity for you.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check, along with other relevant pre-employment checks. Shortlisted candidates may also be subject to an online search.
