We’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of our safety culture, compliance, and environmental management systems at our food manufacturing site. As our HSE Manager, you will act as the company’s lead safety representative, ensuring robust health, safety, and environmental practices are embedded throughout the organisation. You will work closely with operational teams and senior leadership to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and promote a positive and proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct and review risk assessments and HACCP assessments for production processes
- Implement control measures to minimise risks to employees, contractors, and visitors
- Act as the Company Health & Safety Representative, developing and implementing H&S policies, procedures, and risk assessments
- Serve as the main point of contact for external H&S consultancy support
- Arrange and chair Health & Safety Committee meetings
- Maintain and review the Health & Safety management system
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis
- Ensure fire safety, first aid, and emergency procedures are in place and regularly tested
- Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, communication, and training
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and compliance checks across the site
- Manage statutory reporting where required (including RIDDOR)
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, audits, risk assessments, and training
- Prepare H&S performance reports for senior management
- Assess and monitor contractor safety compliance
- Implement risk controls relating to machinery, manual handling, allergens, chemicals, and workplace hygiene
- Ensure business continuity planning includes safety and risk considerations
- Ensure the Environmental Management System (EMS) is established, implemented, and maintained in line with ISO 14001:2015
- Work with department heads to ensure compliance with environmental requirements
- Monitor system effectiveness through audits and non-conformance reporting
- Report on EMS performance to senior management and recommend improvements
- Liaise with external stakeholders on environmental management matters
- Proven experience in Health & Safety within food manufacturing or FMCG
- Strong knowledge of H&S legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience managing risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations
- Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage teams at all levels
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and safety culture
- You will hold a recognised qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma
