The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.
The Chief Setter will act as the lead person in charge of a setting day. On an individual set, they will be the point of communication and decision-making for the team, wider staff, and customers. During a set, the Chief Setter will be responsible for distributing workload amongst the team of setters and strippers. They will manage the time allocated for setting, breaks, testing, and tidying. They will also support the team, responding to setter queries and providing feedback in the moment, where appropriate. Finally, they will ensure that setting procedures are followed and Health and Safety policies are adhered to. Due to the high volume of setting days at the Castle, this role will be split, and the responsibility of ‘Chiefing’ sets will be shared. The post holder can expect on average 2 Chief Setter days per week, with variable additional days as a regular setter on the team. This is a part time (16 to 24 hours per week) role and will be paid at £22.95/h.
Requirements:
- Brief the team on setting plan ahead of the day's commencement (allocation, methods & procedures etc.);
- Ensure safe exclusion zone is in place (cordoning off etc.);
- Ensure appropriate PPE & setting equipment is utilized throughout set;
- Respond to queries regarding hold/volume placement, quality, safety, etc. throughout set;
- Co-ordinate workflow and timing during set;
- Provide feedback to setters and trainees (where appropriate) throughout set;
- Ensure delivery of appropriate distribution of holds on wall and grades on set;
- Risk assess climbing moves, starts, volumes/holds positioning, etc. throughout the set;
- Lead on testing blocs/routes on set and provide feedback where appropriate;
- Check set has appropriate distribution of holds and grades.
