Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) – Castle Air Academy
Full-Time | Nominated Post Holder | Fixed-Salary Preferred (Contract Considered)
Location: Castle Air Academy HQ, EGBJ, South West UK
Castle Air Academy is seeking a highly capable and motivated Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) to join our senior leadership team and take responsibility for the delivery of our Integrated and Modular PPL(H) and CPL(H) training programmes. This is a CAA Nominated Post Holder (Form 4) role and an exceptional opportunity for an experienced instructor or examiner looking to take the next step in their career.
We’re proud of our reputation as one of the UK’s premier helicopter training providers, delivering integrated and modular commercial training to both self-funded students and industry cadets. Our structured, supportive, and professional environment ensures high quality outcomes for students and instructors alike — and we’re now looking for a new CFI to help us continue to raise the bar.
✦ The Role
As CFI, you will lead the delivery of flight training across both single-engine (R22/R44) and, if qualified, multi-engine (AW109E) platforms. You will oversee instructor development, ensure Part-FCL compliance, and work closely with the Head of Training and FSTD Manager to maintain the highest instructional standards.
You’ll play a critical role in shaping the next generation of commercial helicopter pilots while continuing to fly and examine regularly as an active member of the instructional team.
✦ Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise SE and (if qualified) ME instructors across PPL(H), CPL(H), and integrated courses
- Maintain oversight of instructional standards and ensure full CAA Part-FCL and ATO compliance
- Conduct flight training and, where qualified, CPL(H) skill tests and proficiency checks
- Mentor new and developing instructors and contribute to examiner and TRI progression plans
- Liaise with HoT, CTKI, and FSTD staff to continuously improve syllabi and course delivery
✦ Candidate Profile
- Current FI(H) with extensive SE instructional experience
- FE(H) (CPL preferred) with a desire for further development as TRI(H)/TRE(H)
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire instructional teams
- Familiarity with integrated training programmes and associated compliance standards
- Strong understanding of ATO oversight and CAA regulatory requirements
✦ Terms
- Preferred: Full-time salaried position, with significant opportunity for progression
- Considered: Experienced contractors who meet the standard and offer strong availability
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Based at our purpose-built training centre with full-time access to FNPT II, and SE and ME platforms
✦ Why Castle Air Academy?
We are a growing, innovative, high-quality training environment with a clearly defined growth strategy. You’ll be joining a trusted team of professionals delivering to both private and industry clients, with modern facilities, reliable aircraft, and a strong commitment to excellence. The role is available due to forward planning, not operational change — and offers genuine long-term progression, with IR training offered for the right candidate.
