About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join a fast-paced transport operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day planning of vehicle movements, ensuring routes are efficient, compliant, and delivered to a high standard. You will work independently to keep operations running smoothly, maximising fleet availability, reducing cost, and supporting strong service performance.
What You Will Do
- Plan efficient routes and driver schedules using transport management systems (TMS) for both LTL and FTL movements
- Use strong knowledge of UK road networks, traffic patterns, and regional route constraints
- Ensure compliance with UK/EU regulations including driver hours, breaks, and tachograph rules
- Allocate jobs to drivers based on vehicle suitability, availability, and route requirements
- Log issues such as delays, breakdowns, and customer concerns as they arise
- Brief drivers on routes, hours, and delivery requirements, supporting them in real time
- Adjust plans quickly in response to delays, closures, weather, or staffing changes
- Liaise with subcontractors, agencies, and external partners to maintain service levels
- Produce reports on fleet availability, driver schedules, and planned maintenance
What You Will Bring
- Strong decision-making skills and commercial awareness in time-sensitive environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence communicating across the organisation
- Solid understanding of relevant transport legislation, including tachograph and Working Time Directive requirements
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-changing operational setting
