About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Manager to lead our Health, Safety, and Environmental management across the business. This role is central to embedding a strong HSE culture within a busy manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and international standards.
The HSE Manager will be responsible for carrying out gap analyses to identify areas for improvement, preparing for and managing ISO 45001 certification, developing robust risk assessments and documentation, and advising the business on all areas of HSE risk. You will work closely with managers across all departments, including the Quality Manager, to ensure safety, health, and environmental best practice is integrated into every aspect of our operations.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Strategy & Compliance
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's HSE management systems.
- Conduct gap analyses to identify areas requiring improvement for ISO 45001 conformity and prepare the business for audits.
- Ensure compliance with relevant UK health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards.
- Advise senior management and employees on all HSE matters, highlighting risks and recommending solutions.
Documentation & Risk Management
- Create, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Develop and review comprehensive risk assessments across all areas of the business.
- Manage incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis, ensuring lessons learned are shared and acted upon.
Engagement & Culture
- Work with leadership and employees to promote a strong HSE culture across the business.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to ensure HSE responsibilities are understood and met.
- Collaborate with the Quality Manager to align HSE and quality initiatives, driving continuous improvement.
Auditing & Reporting
- Prepare and manage internal and external HSE audits.
- Monitor performance against key HSE metrics and provide regular reports to management.
- Benchmark against industry best practice and recommend improvements.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience in an HSE management role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Experience preparing for and managing ISO 45001 certification.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct gap analyses and implement corrective actions.
- Skilled in risk assessment, incident investigation, and HSE documentation.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to engage staff at all levels.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent HSE qualification.
- Experience working alongside quality teams to drive integrated management systems.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and environmental management best practice.
- Strong IT skills (MS Office, audit/reporting tools).
