Cast UK are working with a well-established and growing logistics business to recruit an experienced Transport Planner to join their Rochdale operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner to join a successful logistics business with a strong reputation for service delivery and a genuine focus on its people. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day planning and coordination of transport operations, ensuring vehicles, drivers and routes are effectively managed to deliver a high level of customer service.

The Role

Working within a busy transport operation, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating a range of transport movements, including groupage, local collections and deliveries and full-load work. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning groupage and local collection and delivery vehicles
  • Full-load planning, including return loads and subcontractor management
  • Route planning and optimisation
  • Allocating trunk movements
  • Debriefing drivers and managing post-delivery information
  • Chasing and progressing deliveries and collections
  • Producing labels and trunk manifests
  • Coordinating cross-docking activities for night trunks
  • Monitoring transport performance and resolving issues
  • Producing KPI and non-conformance reports
  • Communicating effectively with drivers, customers and internal teams
  • Supporting the wider transport operation to ensure service levels are maintained

About You

We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner who is confident working in a fast-paced transport environment and enjoys being at the heart of a busy operation. You will ideally have:

  • At least 2 years' experience within a Transport Planning role
  • Experience planning groupage, full loads and/or general haulage operations
  • Strong route planning and geographical knowledge
  • Experience working with subcontractors and return loads
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to prioritise and make decisions in a fast-moving environment
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to service quality
