An established and growing international business supplying specialist engineered products is seeking a commercially minded Purchasing & Logistics Manager to take ownership of purchasing, logistics and supply chain performance across its international operations.
Following a period of sustained growth, the business is investing in stronger systems and operating processes.
This new role will bring together responsibility currently shared across several colleagues, creating greater structure, visibility and control across a function critical to service, cost and future growth.
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will work closely with overseas operations and global suppliers to source products competitively, manage the movement of goods, maintain compliant import and export activity and improve stock availability.
The role combines strategic ownership with a practical, hands on approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end to end purchasing and supply chain activity across international operations.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with global suppliers, negotiating pricing, contracts, payment terms and service levels.
- Identify alternative sources of supply, mitigate supply risk and improve total landed cost.
- Manage sea, air, road and courier freight, working closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers and logistics providers.
- Own import and export documentation, Incoterms, commodity codes, country of origin data and international trade compliance.
- Develop purchasing and replenishment plans around demand, lead times and inventory requirements.
- Monitor supplier quality, delivery, cost and responsiveness through clear KPIs and structured supplier reviews.
- Use ERP or MRP data and advanced Excel analysis to improve purchasing visibility, stock accuracy and working capital.
- Work with technical, sales, customer service and warehouse colleagues to ensure products meet specifications and customer requirements.
- Introduce robust processes, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and logistics.
Skills and Experience
- Proven purchasing, procurement, supply chain or logistics management experience within an international manufacturing, engineering or industrial business.
- Thorough understanding of international import and export operations, customs procedures, Incoterms and trade compliance.
- Strong commercial capability, including supplier negotiation, total landed cost analysis and cost saving delivery.
- Experience managing international freight movements across sea, air, road and courier services.
- Confident use of ERP or MRP systems, supply chain KPIs and advanced Excel analysis.
- Technically minded, with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications and product requirements.
- Highly organised, proactive and practical, with a hands on approach when required.
