About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy and fast-paced transport operation in North Weald. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in transport planning, fleet coordination or logistics who can effectively manage daily collections and deliveries, optimise fleet utilisation and ensure compliance with transport legislation. You will work closely with drivers, customers and subcontractors, ensuring schedules run efficiently while responding quickly to operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily collections and deliveries, meeting customer requirements and time windows.
- Optimise routes, vehicle utilisation and driver schedules to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Liaise with drivers regarding routes, delays and operational issues.
- Communicate with customers and manage expectations around deliveries.
- Source and coordinate subcontractors when required.
- Ensure compliance with Driver Hours, Working Time Directive and relevant transport legislation.
- Conduct driver briefings and debriefings, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Monitor and report on late loads and transport performance.
- Maintain accurate transport records and planning systems.
- Coordinate vehicle checks, servicing and MOT requirements.
- Complete transport administration and maintain relevant documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and service levels.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience within a transport planning or logistics environment, with the ability to remain calm and organised in a fast-paced operation. You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Transport Planner, Logistics Planner, Transport Coordinator, Fleet Planner or similar.
- Strong knowledge of Driver Hours, tachograph regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Experience using transport management systems or planning software.
- Experience coordinating drivers and/or transport teams.
- Strong geographical and route-planning knowledge.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good commercial awareness and an understanding of cost-effective transport planning.
- The ability to prioritise effectively and work under pressure.
- A proactive, self-motivated and solutions-focused approach.
