Build the Internal Developer Experience for One of the World's Largest Financial Institutions

We're looking for highly capable Software Engineers to join a newly formed engineering team responsible for transforming how thousands of developers build, deploy and operate software across a global enterprise.

This is not a traditional application development role.

You'll be helping shape a next-generation internal developer platform that aims to provide the same seamless experience developers expect from products such as Heroku, Render, Railway and Coolify.

The goal is simple: reduce complexity, remove friction and create an industry-leading developer experience at scale.

The platform is in its early stages, making this a rare opportunity to influence architecture, tooling, workflows, usability and developer adoption from day one.

  • What You'll Be Doing
  • Building services, tools and capabilities that improve the software delivery experience for engineers across the organisation.
  • Identifying pain points in developer journeys and driving solutions from concept through to implementation.
  • Improving and evolving internal platforms and user interfaces.
  • Working closely with engineering teams to understand challenges and remove barriers to productivity.
  • Helping create intuitive, self-service experiences that minimise manual intervention and support.
  • Influencing technical direction, platform usability and engineering best practice.
  • Acting as a self-starter within a small, high-impact team with significant autonomy.
  • Technology

The environment is deliberately technology-agnostic.

The team is looking for strong engineers who are excited by learning and solving problems, rather than specialists tied to a single stack.

Current technologies include

  • Java
  • Kotlin
  • Node. js
  • React
  • AWS
  • GCP

You’ll also encounter technologies such as

  • Go
  • Rust
  • . NET
  • Messaging platforms and distributed systems technologies

Exposure to these technologies is beneficial but not essential. Mindset and adaptability are valued far more than ticking every box.

What We're Looking For

You’ll likely be someone who

  • Has strong software engineering fundamentals.
  • Enjoys tackling unfamiliar technical challenges.
  • Thrives in ambiguous environments rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
  • Has excellent communication skills and enjoys collaborating with developers and stakeholders.
  • Can identify problems independently and drive solutions through to completion.
  • Brings a product mindset to engineering challenges.
  • Is passionate about developer experience, platform engineering, automation or internal tooling.

Why Join?

  • Opportunity to influence a major strategic engineering programme from the ground up.
  • Join a team at the very beginning of its growth journey.
  • Work on problems impacting thousands of developers.
  • Strong engineering culture focused on innovation, developer productivity and continuous improvement.
  • Use modern tooling, cloud technologies and AI-assisted development practices.
  • High degree of ownership and autonomy.
  • Working Arrangement

The role is aligned to Sheffield and candidates should be able to attend the office regularly.

Whilst there is flexibility within the team, applicants should be comfortable with a hybrid working model.
