Your local British Red Cross shop offers volunteers a variety of activities, from sorting stock and preparing donated items for sale, to providing great customer service to our donors and customers. We have something to suit most people’s interests and it’s a great place to learn new skills or share existing ones.

We are currently looking for Till and Customer Service volunteers to help us in our shop. If you have a positive outlook, enjoy speaking to new people, and are confident in learning how to use a shop till, then this may be for you.

Till and Customer Service – Typical Activities
  • Using the shop till to take payment for items
  • Promoting Gift Aid to maximise our fundraising potential
  • Helping and advising customers
  • Undertaking general activities in the shop

No experience is needed. Full training will be provided.

When can I volunteer?

A few hours during the week or weekend, as agreed with the shop manager. There is no minimum commitment or fixed hours; we only ask that you agree on hours you are confident you can attend and let us know if these change.

Diversity

We celebrate diversity. We want you to bring your authentic self and feel that you belong. We want to create an inclusive environment and promote the power of kindness. As part of creating an inclusive space we have an expenses policy that prioritises volunteers not being out of pocket for expenses linked to your role. If upfront costs are difficult, you can speak to your volunteering manager about alternatives. We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us. Volunteering should be accessible to everyone.

Health and Safety Statement

We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety. We may ask you to complete a simple risk assessment and have a conversation to discuss any adjustments you may need. As we take great care to ensure all volunteers are safe and supported, there may be some locations where we won’t be able to host 15-17 year olds. Please get in touch so we can help you find a suitable volunteering opportunity.
