When there is a fire, flood or severe weather, we’re among the first to respond. You must be located within 50 minutes of Muriel Anderson House, 5 Donnybrewer Road, Eglinton, BT47 3PD. This is a 24-hour service and volunteers will need to be available when on call.
We would like volunteers who:
- Be able to volunteer on a regular basis.
- Can commit to volunteer for at least 2 x 12 hour shifts per month.
- We welcome applications from drivers and non-drivers for this role. If you are a driver, you must have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive in the UK.
- Be confident driving a large British Red Cross vehicle or leased vehicle.
- Are able to attend monthly team meetings.
- Are available to undertake required e-learning modules and online training sessions in the first few months of volunteering plus other service specific trainings as required.
- Can commit to volunteering for at least 12 months.
Due to the nature of this role, applicants must undergo an Access NI check. Applicants will be asked to provide ID documents in support of the Access NI check. Unfortunately, we aren't able to accept applications from 15 – 17 year olds for this role. Please get in touch and we can support you to find another role in your area.

Working alongside the local emergency services every day, from house fires and flooding to power cuts and water shortages, the British Red Cross responds to an emergency almost every 4 hours. As an Emergency Response Volunteer, you will give people the support they need at a time they need it the most.
What you will be doing
- Respond to emergency call outs in your local area.
- Give emotional support to people and communities affected by an emergency.
- Give practical support such as distributing clothing, food or water after an emergency.
- Tell people where they can get extra support.
- Collaborate with local government or emergency services staff.
