Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Java Camunda Engineer to join our implementation team. You will work across Camunda BPMN/DMN process automation, API integration, and microservice orchestration, helping our clients build secure, scalable, and resilient digital services. You will collaborate with solution architects, business analysts, and designers to translate workflows into elegant, maintainable code. You will play a key part in defining technical standards, optimising runtime performance, and mentoring less-experienced engineers in workflow-centric delivery. At Principal level, you will additionally own solution architecture and technical strategy across engagements, act as the senior technical voice with our clients, lead delivery teams, and contribute to bids, pre-sales activity, and the growth of our engineering practice. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys solving complex process problems through clean code, automation, and modern engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy Camunda-based process and decision automation solutions
  • Implement and integrate Java-based microservices, APIs, and connectors within orchestration flows
  • Translate BPMN and DMN models into executable workflows and reusable components
  • Collaborate closely with analysts and service designers to refine and iterate business processes
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites, CI/CD pipelines, and containerised deployments
  • Optimise Camunda engine performance and monitor workflow metrics for production environments
  • Participate in code reviews, peer testing, and technical design discussions
  • Support migration of legacy process platforms to Camunda 8 / Zeebe where applicable
  • Contribute to internal best-practice frameworks and automation accelerators

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong experience in Java software engineering and object-oriented design
  • Hands-on experience implementing solutions using Camunda 7 or 8 (BPMN/DMN)
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring teams of engineers to deliver high-quality, production-grade software (expected at Principal level)
  • Familiarity with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservice architectures
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks
  • Good knowledge of security, authentication, and integration patterns for enterprise systems
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with experience working in agile teams on digital transformation or automation programmes
  • Must be eligible for UK SC Security Clearance and prepared to undergo it; this typically requires having lived in the UK continuously for the past 5 years

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience with Camunda 8 (Zeebe) clusters and Operate/Tasklist components
  • Familiarity with Camunda connectors, external task workers, and scripting extensions
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm)
  • Experience integrating process automation with case-management or service-orchestration platforms
  • Understanding of event-driven design and message brokers (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Understanding of agentic AI capabilities and how they can complement workflow automation
  • Experience contributing to open-source Camunda extensions
  • Holds UK security clearance

What We Offer

  • Meaningful missions. Tackle high-impact public-sector problems that improve services millions rely on.
  • Hybrid Working. We offer flexible working between our London office, client offices, and your home location.
  • Outputs over optics. We focus on what gets delivered, not hours online.
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with founders. Learn from experienced practitioners in a nurturing, hands-on environment.
  • Shape the organisation. Your fingerprints will be on the company as it grows.
  • Autonomy by default. We empower our people to do what's needed.
  • Human > corporate. Sociable, low-ego, dynamic engagements. No big-firm stiffness or needless bureaucracy.
  • Professional Development. We invest in our people through training and certifications.

How to prepare for a job interview at Casci

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Casci uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
