Are you passionate about teaching languages? We are looking to appoint one or more dedicated and passionate freelance foreign languages tutors to enable our company to offer a more diverse, varied programme of language courses to our local community. The candidate should share our vision of bringing languages to learners of all ages and abilities and must be able to offer the highest levels of service and tuition to our customers.
The candidate will independently plan and deliver series of lessons to groups of adult learners and children (of various ages and abilities) in and around the Consett area. Our students have the highest expectations and we are therefore looking for candidates who have already taught languages with experience either of private tutoring and/or mainstream teaching in schools/other educational environments.
Candidates must be professional in his/her approach but friendly and lighthearted. Lessons are not provided and the tutor must be able to work independently in order to plan, create and deliver consistent, quality lessons that engage learners and make them want to come back to CasaLingua. The Tutor must have strong communication skills and the ability to adapt in order to meet the various learning needs and styles of the learners within a group. This role may involve working with exam students, so an understanding of GCSE and A level courses would be an advantage, but the priority is to find a Tutor who can work with adults in groups of between 6 and 20.
The current courses are delivered in line with Durham County school term times so this role might suit someone who does not want to work in school holidays. There may, however, be opportunities to teach outside of these times.
Duties- Prepare and deliver lessons in-person (and potentially online) to small/medium sized groups of adult learners.
- Provide one-on-one, or small group tutoring sessions, ensuring an engaging and supportive learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with students before and during the course and be receptive to need to adapt teaching strategies for students with different abilities.
- Use diverse teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
- Support students with additional needs, employing appropriate strategies and resources in order to be inclusive and welcoming.
- Understand the role that CasaLingua language lessons play in the learner's lives, recognising the educational and social relevance of the classes for those attending the groups.
- Foster positive relationships within and around the CasaLingua community and understand the importance of working with and alongside local businesses and people.
- Maintain accurate registers and records of student attendance.
- Be responsible for communicating with students regarding missed classes/attendance/progress as well as providing advice on learning strategies, resources etc.
- Be flexible and willing to occasionally cover other tutor's classes.
- Be professional at all times, following company procedures and taking due care to protect students personal data.
- Be responsible for the CasaLingua learning space and the students when working there alone, following health and safety procedures and company policy regarding safe and considerate use of the building.
- A relevant teaching qualification or significant previous experience in language tutoring/teaching.
- An ability to plan lessons, resources and deliver lessons without support or supervision.
- A genuine passion for language learning and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability and willingness to use technology in order to enhance the learning experience.
- Experience of working with adult learners.
- Ability to teach more than one foreign language.
- Familiarity with GSCE / A level language courses is an advantage, as the tutor can be offered a wider range of work.
- Familiarity with delivering online lessons to groups.
- DBS enhanced clearance (if working with children).
