We are pleased to offer an exciting fixed term opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our dedicated and dynamic Endoscopy Unit. This position is ideally suited to newly qualified nurses, particularly those who have undertaken a student placement in Endoscopy and are keen to build on their experience within a supportive, high performing team.

About Our Unit

Our Endoscopy service provides a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, delivering safe, high quality care to patients across elective and urgent pathways. You will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team committed to maintaining excellent clinical standards, continuous improvement, and patient centred practice.

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with NMC registration (or awaiting registration if newly qualified).
  • Enthusiasm for developing skills and knowledge in Endoscopy nursing.
  • A caring, patient focused approach with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a busy multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Previous Endoscopy placement experience as a student nurse.
  • Knowledge of JAG (Joint Advisory Group) standards or an interest in achieving competency within JETS training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and safe delivery of endoscopic procedures.
  • Provide high quality, compassionate care before, during, and after procedures.
  • Support senior staff in maintaining patient safety, infection control, and clinical governance.
  • Contribute to patient assessment, care planning, and evaluation.
  • Participate in decontamination processes in line with national guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold professional standards.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

Clinical

  • Following the appropriate training, undertake comprehensive telephone pre‐assessments, including appropriate action for warfarin and diabetes management.
  • Ensuring that accurate information regarding the endoscopy procedure is given to the patient.
  • Following required training and completion of endoscopy specific competencies, take consent for specific procedures.
  • To interpret and act upon blood results (with guidance from Charge nurse/senior staff nurse).
  • To perform venepuncture and cannulation once appropriate training has been given.
  • Accurate recording and understanding significance of observations.
  • Monitor patients vital signs and comfort score, pre, during and post procedure, escalating concerns.
  • Safely and competently care for both the sedated and non‐sedated patient.
