We are looking for a hardware intern to help in a variety of roles across the business. This role is perfect for someone who is technically talented, but who also wants to experience the many different parts of a startup and to travel and work abroad. Previous interns have done everything from designing and testing prototype hardware on snow to supervising our manufacturing lines in China and designing parts of the Carv hardware manufactured in 100k+ volumes.
About Carv And Motion Metrics: Motion Metrics is a London‑based sports technology scale‑up with offices in London (UK) and Innsbruck (Austria). Our product is Carv, the world’s first digital ski coach and we recently launched the Carv 2 system, a compact sensor that clips onto the strap of each ski boot in seconds. It captures high‑resolution motion data using a 6‑axis gyroscope and accelerometer. The data is then sent via Bluetooth to the Carv app, which analyzes your skiing technique and provides real‑time, personalized coaching through your headphones. Carv has the capacity to transform ski technique by providing one‑on‑one coaching for each day of skiing and we are able to take the learning of thousands of athletes and use it to improve the technique of an individual skier in fun, interactive and effective ways. Carv is pioneering a new type of sports wearable device within the fast‑growing sports‑tech industry.
About the Role: Successful applicants will divide their time between two locations as follows:
- Innsbruck: During the peak of the season (November – April) you will have the option of working for 3-4 months from our office in Innsbruck, the capital of the beautiful North Tyrol region and a world‑renowned snowsports destination. You will be provided with accommodation in our company flat in the city, with easy access to various resorts in Austria, and will be in charge of supporting the customer success team to identify, debug and analyze hardware issues with units in use, and reproduce them on the slopes.
- London: Before and after the season you will be working from our London HQ to optimize the manufacturing of the existing hardware and test and validate future design iterations, with support from the wider hardware team. This is where you’ll find the product, operations and marketing teams, and you may have the opportunity to get some insight into the other areas of the business through working with them on projects. Travel to Shenzhen, China may also be required depending on business needs and for a period of up to one month.
Your Main Responsibilities:
- Become a design wizard and design and build test fixtures, prototype hardware, and improvements to our manufacturing process.
- Run in‑depth tests on the Carv hardware to help us continue to improve the product.
