We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Metrologist to join our UKAS Laboratory team in Coventry. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced calibration professional to take on a senior role managing day-to-day laboratory activities while supporting the delivery of high-quality calibration services to both internal and external customers.

The successful candidate will oversee the daily activities of the calibration team, ensuring the efficient running of the laboratory in line with UKAS regulations, internal procedures, and industry standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting with the day-to-day management of the laboratory
  • Prioritising and monitoring workflow to ensure an efficient and premium calibration service
  • Performing and leading calibration activities across mechanical and dimensional disciplines
  • Developing, validating, and improving calibration methods and procedures
  • Ensuring traceability of measurements to international standards and UKAS requirements
  • Assisting with audits and maintaining calibration procedures
  • Reviewing and approving calibration certificates
  • Investigating measurement discrepancies and implementing corrective actions
  • Overseeing measurement uncertainty analysis and maintaining uncertainty budgets
  • Managing and mentoring metrology staff and technicians
  • Supporting internal and external audits, including accreditation bodies
  • Maintaining and optimising laboratory equipment, software, and environmental controls

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong knowledge of measurement principles, instrumentation, and calibration techniques
  • Experience working within ISO/IEC 17025 or equivalent quality standards
  • Proficiency in measurement uncertainty analysis, including GUM methodology
  • Experience using calibration management software and data analysis tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills
  • The ability to work independently both on-site and at customer premises
  • A proactive, flexible, and self-motivated approach
  • Leadership or supervisory experience would be advantageous
