We are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a dynamic automation and robotics team. You will play a key role in designing the electrical aspects of bespoke machinery, from concept through to build, ensuring safe, practical, and manufacturable solutions.

This is a hands-on, project-driven role where you will create detailed electrical designs, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for robotic and automated systems. You will collaborate closely with mechanical and assembly teams to deliver high-quality solutions to customer requirements.

Typical projects include:

  • Fully automated assembly machines
  • Robotic integration requiring detailed electrical layouts
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor-driven systems
  • Complex inspection and production systems across industries such as pharmaceutical, automotive, and general engineering

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for bespoke machinery
  • Select electrical components, motors, sensors, and distribution systems
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant safety standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with mechanical and assembly teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and practical
  • Manage multiple design projects, delivering on time and to specification
  • Review and interpret customer specifications to propose innovative, cost-effective electrical solutions

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in electrical design for machinery or automation (BEng, HND, HNC, or apprenticeship route)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and components
  • Experience producing schematics and panel layouts
  • Understanding of standards such as IEC, BS, or UL relevant to machinery
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Practical, hands-on approach to electrical design
