The post is for 30 hours per week on a flexible basis. Our apprenticeship scheme is run in partnership with a leading provider, Barnsley College, to ensure you are fully supported through a high-quality training programme. You are expected to complete the care certificates during the programme. You will be expected to fulfil the role and responsibilities by the end of the training period, and a development plan will be put in place by your line manager confirming the competencies they expect you to develop during that time. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will progress to an equivalent band 3 as a Health Care Assistant with a qualification of Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support. An enhanced DBS check will be performed by the practice ahead of the post holder's start date.

Main duties of the job

  • Working under the nurse team, the post holder will deliver routine clinical and non-clinical duties including patient treatment and care.
  • The level 3 HCA will be taught how to provide care following policy, procedures and protocols, as well as exercising autonomy on non-complex decisions.
  • HCAs may also provide supervision to more senior staff members.
  • Tasks may include clinical activities like taking bloods, labelling and transporting patient samples, restocking clinical equipment, chaperoning and supporting our nursing team with complex patient activities.
  • Your duties will also be undertaken in the community during home visits to patients to provide care in such cases that they are housebound. Driving with access to own car is essential.

We are a well-respected team of 6 GP partners, 4 salaried GPs, 2 ANPs, 3 practice Nurses, 4 HCAs, and over 20 Admin staff. GMS Practice in Southwest Sheffield close to the Peak District National Park. We have a diverse population of over 13,500 patients over 2 locations.

Job responsibilities

  • Working within the Healthcare/Nursing Team you will be trained to a high standard to complete the following duties:
  • First aid
  • Annual Reviews
  • Room Stocking
  • BMR
  • Stitch removal
  • Blood pressure
  • Vaccinations including seasonal flu vaccines, covid, shingles, pneumonia etc.
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients when required

Confidentiality and Record Keeping

Act at all times with regard to the confidentiality and sensitivity of issues with patients, their care and treatment. All contacts you have with patients must be recorded on the computer.

Additional Responsibilities

  • To comply with Practice Policies and Procedures.
  • To comply with Health, Safety and Fire Regulations.
  • Any other duties as requested by the employer that do not exceed the level of responsibility expected for the grade of post.

Qualifications

Maths & English GCSE Grade 4 or above.
