Leading Energy Trading Firm, London (On-site / Hybrid)
We are working with an established energy trading business in London. Where client is adding risk-takers to their proprietary oil desks, and want traders who can take risk from day one, and strategists whose trade ideas drive the book.
This is a front-office seat with real risk ownership. You will run your own positions or generate the ideas the desk trades, and be measured on the P&L they deliver.
YOUR ROLE:
- Trade crude and/or refined products paper (futures, swaps and options), expressing directional and relative-value views across flat price, timespreads, cracks, diffs and arbs.
- Build and maintain the fundamental views behind your trades: S&D balances, refinery margins, inventories, flows, freight and positioning.
- Own your book day to day, including position sizing, exposures, risk limits and P&L, and adjust as market structure changes.
- Work closely with senior traders, analysts and quants on trade ideas and portfolio construction. Contribute to building out fundamentals coverage, with middle distillates and light ends a particular focus.
- Use systematic or quantitative signals alongside discretionary views where they add edge.
YOUR PROFILE:
- 3+ years in an oil trading or trading strategist seat at a trading house, major, bank, hedge fund or prop firm.
- A track record you can evidence: P&L against VaR, or trade ideas adopted and executed by a desk.
- Deep knowledge of at least one part of the barrel: crude (Dated Brent, BFOE, WTI, Dubai), middle distillates, light ends or fuel oil. Cross-barrel experience is a strong plus.
- Strong fundamental grounding, and you build your own balances and analytics rather than relying on research. Python a plus.
- Ready to trade from day one rather than make the move from a pure analysis role.
- Based in London or willing to relocate. On-site presence preferred, so you sit with the desk.
WHAT'S ON OFFER:
- Direct risk-taking with your own allocation, or a clear path to one from a strategist seat.
- Access to physical market insight, extensive data and an experienced trading team.
- Competitive compensation with meaningful upside tied to the performance of your book or ideas.
- A platform with broad product access across the barrel.
