Job Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-orientedConstruction Design Co-ordinator to manage and streamline the design process across all phases of construction projects. The successful candidate will act as a key liaison between architects, engineers, consultants, and construction teams to ensure that design information is accurate, timely, and aligned with project goals. This role bridges the gap between design intent and construction execution, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a permanent position based at our Cardiff office. The successful candidate will be responsible to the Directors and will assist and report to the Contracts Manager for each related site.
The role will require a close working relationship with the Project design team acting as a medium to our contracts management team on a day-to-day basis.
Design team meetings will need to be arranged as required by the Project team, with all data being communicated promptly as necessary.
The role will generally involve some travel to meet up with design teams or attend design team meetings at site. Overnight stays may be required, with related costs for accommodation being met by the company.
An attractive remuneration package will be provided for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage the flow of design information between internal teams and external consultants.
- Review and manage design documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications, building regulations, and client requirements.
- Identify and resolve design-related issues that may impact construction timelines or budgets.
- Support the development of design programmes and monitor progress against key milestones.
- Lead design review meetings and workshops to resolve technical issues with internal and external teams along with key sub-contractors.
- Track and ensure that design changes are communicated effectively and incorporated into project documentation and schedules.
- Assist in value engineering exercises to optimize design solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of design decisions, approvals, and revisions.
- Monitor project progress and report on key milestones, risks, and issues. Commitment to ensuring the information provided to our management teams is timely and accurate, thus ensuring programme compliance and mitigating both risk and error.
- Assist with procurement of design related materials and sub-contractors.
- Support the preparation of project status reports, presentations, and client updates.
- Collaborate with Clients and Architects and provide information to facilitate pre/on-site Planning Conditions
- Assist in the provision of information to the Principal Designer to enable sign off as required both pre / during Construction.
Requirements:
- Preferably Degree or diploma in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a design coordination role within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, and design standards.
- Understanding of design software such as AutoCAD but not essential.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, RICS, ICE).
