Overview
We are hiring an ambitious student for a placement year to join our rural department in Cambridge on a 12-month fixed term contract in the Summer/Autumn 2026. Our dedicated team of rural surveyors provide advice to landowners and farmers on unlocking the value of their assets, diversification, change of use, rural management, leveraging natural capital and bio-diversity opportunities, along with valuing rural assets all over the UK.
What you will do
- Day to day assistance on various managed rural estates in locations including direct contact with owners, tenants and contractors.
- Assisting agents with valuations, sales and a wide range of professional matters for both private and institutional clients.
- Site visits and property inspections.
What will it take to be successful?
We are looking for forward thinking students with a can-do attitude, who have the ability to manage multiple projects and deal with a variety of work. You will ideally be studying a RICS accredited degree, however, we welcome applications from those studying a non-accredited degree who are looking to pursue a career in rural surveying. It is essential that you have or are working towards gaining a full UK driving license.

You will gain transferable skills and knowledge in order to develop and open up future opportunities.
Carter Jonas runs an internal APC training program, available to all placement students and graduates. As part of this program placement students will take part in various away days focused on understanding the APC process and how to succeed. They will receive help and support from across the wider firm, including those who have recently sat their APC, as well as feedback and workshops provided by APC Assessors working at Carter Jonas. Overall APC contribution is only applicable for those with a RICS accredited degree.
Application process
You will be asked to respond to a number of questions about your work experience as well as your motivations and interest in a career in property/rural as well as any extracurricular activities. We ask you to provide reference contact details, one educational and one employment. If successful, you will be invited to attend an interview in November.
