The Birmingham Commercial team have a new growth opportunity for a qualified surveyor to join their Valuations team. The role will focus on growing the Commercial valuations business, to build client relations and work with the existing department to increase the volume of instructions.

We provide valuation services for all the clearing banks, a wide range of second tier and challenger banks, local authorities, developers, house builders, land estates, public bodies, accountants, and solicitors. Our valuations are for loan security, acquisition or disposal, tax and financial reporting purposes, meaning the surveyor will gain variety in their role and enhance their technical abilities within this specialist area.

Based in a central location, our Birmingham office is close to local transport links and operates as one of our main hub offices, providing you with the opportunity to work collaboratively across different teams within the business. The office also offers regular social activities, including fundraising events, Summer and Christmas celebrations, as well as additional gatherings organised by our Social Committee.

  • Work within the existing valuation team in Birmingham.
  • Carry out inspections and all due diligence and statutory enquiries required to prepare valuations and development appraisals with a smart use of software like Valos.
  • Contribution to the growth of the business by identifying new business opportunities across the Commercial valuation sector.
  • Financial and client reporting.
  • Delivery of valuation reports in accordance with client instructions and RICS Valuation Standards.
  • Participation in the ongoing development and implementation of an effective profit centre business plan developed in-line with the Carter Jonas vision.
  • Take an active role in the development and implementation of efficient, ‘best practice’ internal systems and processes, optimising IT and other resources.
  • Support more junior colleagues in their APC training.

We cover the whole of West and East Midlands and North Wales region and report on a wide range of properties including:

  • Industrial and warehouses
  • Offices (in town and out of town)
  • Retail (high street and retail warehouses)
  • Residential development (Greenfield / brownfield development sites and redevelopment of existing buildings, including permitted development rights projects)
  • Viability assessments for developers and local authorities

What will it take to be successful?

  • You will be RICS qualified, with post qualification experience within a commercial consultancy team.
  • You will ideally be a Registered Valuer with a good understanding of legislation and the RICS Code of Conduct.
  • You will be able to build and develop relationships with key clients, gaining trust using your specialist knowledge.
  • You will be a proactive surveyor, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • You will support in identifying opportunities, demonstrating ambition and commitment to building the business further.
  • Finally, you will be a key team player and will be flexible with requirements across the team.
  • A driving licence is essential for this role.
