We are investing in and expanding our Healthcare Team in England and are looking for ambitious, motivated legal professionals at all levels who have a passion for healthcare work. This role offers significant flexibility, and applications from fully remote candidates will be reviewed. However, candidates should be willing and able to attend the office periodically for team collaboration, client engagement, and business requirements on occasion. Candidates with experience in representing both Defendants and Claimants in clinical negligence claims will be considered, as well as candidates with experience in dealing with catastrophic/high value personal injury litigation (both Claimant and Defendant).

Main Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied caseload of clinical negligence claims, on behalf of Defendants, from initial instruction through to resolution, to include management of disclosure issues, expert evidence, preparing and complying with case management directions, attending and conducting advocacy (where appropriate) at Court Hearings, mediations and settlement meetings;
  • Providing expert legal advice on all required liability and quantum investigations and effectively/efficiently progressing these in accordance with client instructions;
  • Drafting regular client advice reports, to include analysis on all clinical and legal issues, reserves and strategy/recommendations for next steps;
  • Drafting chronologies, pleadings, witness statements, Court documents and settlement agreements;
  • Instructing and consulting/liaising with experts and Counsel, as and when required;
  • Supporting healthcare professionals through all aspects of Court process and the sensitive stages of a claim;
  • Supervising and delegating work to trainee solicitors/paralegals, legal executives and secretarial/support staff as appropriate and ensuring accuracy, timeliness and excellent standards of service delivery;
  • Complying with file management, time recording, billing, confidentiality, data protection, equality and diversity, client service standards and professional conduct requirements;
  • Keeping up to date with developments in clinical negligence, healthcare law, civil litigation procedure, medical practice, healthcare regulation and continuing professional development requirements;
  • Supporting and engaging with the full Healthcare Team in relation to Business Development activity, related to the healthcare sector, to include article writing and attending/presenting at specialist healthcare events.
