The School of Technical, Construction and Motor Vehicle at Carshalton College are seeking a Workshop Assistant to provide technician support in Construction with the following specialisms: Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Bricklaying and Multi-skills.
You’ll carry out the maintenance of the workshops and equipment for Construction and if required, Engineering and maintain stock levels and inventory, both equipment and materials. You’ll assist in stock control and manage the deliveries of Construction equipment and consumables and assist the academic staff and other technician staff to provide technician support in the stores and in the workshops.
We’re looking for someone who holds vocational qualifications or trade qualifications (at least Level 2 NVQ) in one of the following trades: Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing, Electrical installation or other trade area. With working knowledge from a technician background, you’ll have specialised experience in one or more of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and bricklaying or other relevant trade area and experience in providing technician support for a Construction Department, or of working in a similar environment.
Able to set up, monitor and maintain administrative systems, you’ll have an excellent understanding of Health and Safety and Welfare legislation with the ability to identify and implement improvements in existing systems. You’ll be able to communicate effectively at all levels, work under pressure and to strict deadlines, able to use initiative, organise and prioritise.
The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year. Closing date for the return of completed applications is 20th May 2025.
