We are seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Head of Fuels Operations to lead the operational performance of our Fuels division. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for driving the business forward, supporting robust procurement decisions, high compliance standards, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will oversee safe, efficient and compliant fuel operations across all locations, while ensuring that our teams deliver exceptional service. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact and shape the future of a key business division, in a supportive environment where continuous improvement and innovation are encouraged. The successful candidate will be based in Cumbria or South West Scotland.

THE JOB
Key responsibilities for the successful Head of Fuels Operations will include:
- Operational Leadership Performance - providing day-to-day and strategic leadership of fuel operations across both depots and transport including developing and supporting operational managers and supervisors and using data, insight and KPIs to drive performance, decision making and continuous improvement.
- Procurement Supply - working in conjunction with the Procurement team to ensure commercially sound decisions are made and supplier relationships are established and maintained.
- Compliance Governance - ensuring a fully compliant operation in accordance with legislation and approved industry standards and maintaining an effective system for audits, inspections and regulatory reporting.
- Health Safety - champion a health and safety culture across the division and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
- Continuous Improvement Efficiency - lead improvement and change initiatives that improve services levels, reduce cost and enhance operational resilience.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES REQUIRED
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience in a senior operational role
- Strong knowledge of procurement principles and fuel operations and transport requirements.
- Proven track record leading multi-site operations
- Solid understanding of SHE management within a high-risk environment
- Ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement
- Strong commercial acumen
- An advocate for safety, compliance and operational excellence
- Have a practical and solutions-focused approach
Desirable:
- Experience within fuel, distributions, logistics or a closely related regulated industry
- Formal H S qualification
