THE JOB

To oversee and co-ordinate daily operations within the depot through the proactive management, supervision of all staff members and workload. To support and contribute to the effective operation of the depot as a first line manager, mentor, team member and planner. To assist in training and developing a competent team of drivers using both supportive leadership and positive communication skills, ensuring the highest level of performance and efficiency, safety and customer satisfaction. Assist in ensuring that all staff and vehicles comply with all operational standards and procedures, health, safety and legal compliance requirements. Assist in the monitoring of stock levels and the ordering of fuels as required. Provide planning support and cover for the Carlisle (Kingstown) Transport Planner, assisting with the safe, compliant and efficient scheduling of fuel deliveries.

Driver Supervisor

· Provide direct supervision and support to a team of fuel tanker drivers.

· Ensure a high level of performance by driving and upholding high standards across the fuel team.

· Assist in ensuring a high level of legal compliance, including vehicle checks and periodic maintenance, driver’s hours, working time directive, and ADR regulations.

· Promotes engagement with the team by motivating team members and conducting driver briefings, toolbox talks, and performance reviews.

· Assist in upskilling and developing team members by proactively coaching and mentoring whilst addressing any potential skill gaps.

· Attend training and development meetings, including monthly H&S and toolbox talk meetings.

· Actively supports teamwork to ensure that targets and tasks are completed.

· Continuously promotes a positive Health and Safety culture and actively oversees strict adherence to all HSE regulations and Company Health and Safety procedures.

· Manage driver risk assessments at depot level, communicate issues raised to customers and report data back to HSE and Management.

· Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, near misses and customer complaints.

· Provide friendly and professional engagement with customers, looking for customer service opportunities to go the extra mile.

· Promotes the business brand whilst always working towards required standards.


· Carry out multi drop deliveries of kerosene, gas oil and diesel to both domestic and commercial customers, as per the standard Fuel Tanker Driver role.

· Assist with other work around the depot when required, including holiday cover and support cover across other fuel depots.

· To adhere to Company and Group policies and procedures, including but not limited to those relating to Safety, Health and Environmental.

Planning Support


· Provide planning support and cover for the Carlisle (Kingstown) Transport Planner, assisting with the safe, compliant and efficient scheduling of fuel deliveries.

· Support route planning, fleet utilisation and delivery scheduling through the effective use of route planning software, telematics and company systems.

· The role requires strong geographical knowledge, sound planning skills and the ability to respond to changing operational demands.

· Liaise daily with drivers, team members and depot colleagues to coordinate deliveries, communicate changes and resolve operational issues.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES REQUIRED

Essential

· Valid UK Category C licence.

· Driver CPC qualification

· ADR Tanks certification including class 3.

· Experience within fuel distribution or hazardous goods transport.

· Ability to lead, supervise, coach and develop a team of professional drivers.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Demonstrable route planning ability with strong geographical knowledge of delivery areas and road networks.

· Ability to make operational decisions.

· Customer focus and service excellence.

Desirable

· I.T Literate, with previous I.T system knowledge.

· Good awareness of safety and risk management.

· Conflict resolution and relationship management.

· Competent in the use of route planning software, telematics systems, transport management systems and other operational technologies.

· Highly organised with strong planning and prioritisation skills.
