We have an exciting and exclusive opportunity for a Lead Medical Writer to join an established, independent and global full-service market access consultancy based in the UK. This is a leadership role, overseeing editorial quality and delivery, and supporting junior team members with training, coaching and reviewing.
As the Lead Medical Writer, you will be one of the consultancy's service leads, focused on editorial excellence. With this comes a mixture of responsibilities, across market access deliverable writing, client leadership, and people management to ensure the team are best placed to support the global client base they serve.
The role will involve:
- Leading the development and delivery of high-quality, evidence-driven content across market access, value and medical communications
- Act as the senior medical writing authority within the team, taking ownership of scientific integrity, clarity and consistency of deliverables
- Produce and oversee key deliverables including value dossiers, HTA submissions, manuscripts, abstracts, conference posters, reports and slide decks
- Take a proactive role in content strategy, document planning and scientific storytelling, working independently and with senior consultants
- Establish, manage and continuously improve the editorial review process, including templates, style guides and backend editorial systems
- Coach, mentor and train analysts and junior writers across the business, embedding strong writing skills company-wide
- Lead internal writing training, including the development and delivery of writing courses
- Provide hands-on editorial review, copy-editing and final quality control for client-facing materials
- Collaborate closely with consultants, analysts and cluster leads across the UK, US and Europe in a true matrix environment
- Support publication strategy, including journal and congress targeting, and advising teams on manuscripts and abstracts
Experience and qualities that make you a strong fit:
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD strongly preferred; MSc or MD also considered)
- Around 5+ years’ experience as a medical writer, ideally within market access, HEOR or healthcare consulting
- 2–3+ years’ experience in a leadership, mentoring or line-management capacity
- Strong experience across multiple deliverables, including value dossiers, HTA submissions and manuscripts
- Demonstrated passion for coaching, teaching and developing others’ writing skills
- Experience managing or contributing to editorial systems and review processes
- Excellent scientific judgement with a strong eye for detail and clarity
- Comfortable working in a fast-growing, low-bureaucracy consultancy where trust, autonomy and culture fit matter
