Assistant Management Accountant (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)
Salary: £29,000 – £33,000 + benefits
Location: Okehampton, Devon
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Are you an experienced finance professional with strong management accounting skills and advanced Excel experience? This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and growing Devon business, where you'll play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, insightful analysis and supporting business decision-making.
Working closely with the Assistant Financial Controller, you'll be responsible for producing management information, analysing financial performance and ensuring key financial processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
What You'll Be Doing
- Producing weekly sales reports, KPI packs and management information
- Manipulating and analysing large volumes of data using Excel to provide meaningful business insights
- Assisting with the preparation and review of monthly management accounts
- Processing accruals, prepayments and journal entries
- Reviewing costs against forecasts and budgets, identifying and explaining variances
- Preparing departmental spend analysis and supporting budget holders with financial information
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations, including payroll control accounts
- Processing payroll journals and supporting finance operations during period-end close
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and processing monthly depreciation
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns and reconciling associated control accounts
- Supporting year-end audit requirements and assisting with audit queries
- Assisting with intercompany transactions and preparation of financial reporting packs
- Supporting the wider finance team with ad-hoc reporting and information requests
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience preparing management accounts and month-end reporting
- Strong Excel skills, including data analysis, reporting and reconciliation work
- Experience using Sage 50 or similar accounting software
- Solid understanding of accruals, prepayments, journals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Experience preparing VAT returns and maintaining accurate financial records
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across different departments
- A proactive approach with the confidence to identify issues and suggest improvements
- Accounting qualifications would be beneficial but practical experience is the key requirement
