Group Financial Controller

Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 per annum
Location: Exeter
Contract: Permanent (Full Time)

Are you an experienced finance professional looking for your next senior leadership opportunity within a growing and purpose-driven organisation?

We are currently supporting an established and expanding organisation with the appointment of a Group Financial Controller to lead financial control, reporting, compliance and accounting across the Group.

This is a senior and influential position within the Finance function, offering the opportunity to play a key role in strengthening financial controls, improving processes and supporting the continued growth of the business.

You’ll work closely with senior leadership and the wider Finance team, providing accurate financial information, technical accounting expertise and insight to support effective decision-making.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the Group's month-end and year-end close processes
  • Overseeing consolidated financial reporting and statutory accounts
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, statutory requirements and tax obligations
  • Managing external audit relationships and coordinating audit activity across the Group
  • Maintaining and continually improving financial policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Overseeing transactional finance functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, banking and the general ledger
  • Maintaining robust balance sheet controls, reconciliations and audit-ready documentation
  • Leading cash management, cash flow reporting and treasury processes
  • Providing technical accounting support and financial insight to senior stakeholders
  • Working closely with FP&A to align actual results, forecasts and business performance
  • Supporting major projects, investments and strategic initiatives from a financial perspective
  • Leading, coaching and developing the finance team
  • Identifying opportunities to automate, streamline and improve finance processes
  • Supporting the integration and development of financial and operational systems as the business continues to grow

What We’re Looking For

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professionally qualified accountant
  • Proven experience in a senior financial control or group accounting role
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience preparing consolidated group financial statements
  • Experience within a multi-entity, growing or fast-paced organisation
  • Strong experience managing external audits, statutory reporting and compliance
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to develop and motivate a high-performing finance team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and financial control
  • Experience using finance systems and ERPs, ideally with a track record of improving processes and controls
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • A proactive, collaborative and continuous-improvement mindset
