Our client, a leading highways and civil engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Planner to join their growing team delivering term maintenance, surfacing, and public realm infrastructure projects.

The Planner will provide end-to-end planning and programme support across a portfolio of highways projects. You will work closely with Project Managers and commercial teams to develop, maintain, and monitor project programmes, ensuring accurate sequencing, progress tracking, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle. You will play a key role in driving efficient delivery, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting successful project outcomes through robust planning and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed project programmes in line with contract requirements.
  • Establish clear milestones, logic-linked schedules, and critical paths.
  • Monitor progress and highlight delays, risks, and opportunities for early completion.
  • Produce short-term look-ahead programmes and support delivery teams on site.
  • Manage programme changes and support assessment of Compensation Events (NEC).
  • Liaise with commercial teams on procurement schedules and reporting.
  • Lead programme meetings and present updates to clients and internal teams.
  • Produce accurate reports, forecasts, and progress analysis.
  • Integrate subcontractor programmes into the master schedule.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and third parties where required.
  • Carry out delay analysis, 'what if' scenarios, and review as-built data.
  • Support continuous improvement in planning processes and procedures.

About You

  • Experience working within highways or civil engineering infrastructure projects.
  • Ideally 5+ years' experience in a planning role.
  • Strong knowledge of planning software such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts, particularly change and commercial processes.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Power BI is desirable.
  • Relevant construction or civil engineering qualification (desirable).
  • CSCS card required.
