My client is seeking an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join their Preconstruction team in Nottinghamshire. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated highways professional who enjoys leading design projects, solving complex engineering challenges, and seeing schemes progress from concept through to construction.
As a Senior Highway Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering a diverse portfolio of highway and civil engineering projects that improve transport networks, enhance road safety, and create sustainable infrastructure for local communities. Working within a collaborative team environment, you will have the opportunity to influence project outcomes while developing your technical expertise and leadership skills.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Highway Engineer, you will take ownership of the design and delivery of highway and civil engineering projects, ensuring schemes are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the design and delivery of highway and civil engineering projects of varying size and complexity.
- Producing and overseeing highway geometric alignment, pavement, drainage and associated infrastructure designs.
- Preparing specifications, contract documentation and technical reports to support project delivery.
- Managing projects to achieve quality, programme and financial objectives while meeting client and stakeholder expectations.
- Providing specialist technical, design and cost advice to colleagues, clients and external stakeholders.
- Reviewing and approving engineering designs to ensure compliance with relevant standards, legislation and industry best practice.
- Supporting the successful delivery of complex and large-scale infrastructure projects across the organisation.
- Working closely with Construction and Commercial teams to ensure efficient project delivery and effective collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety management systems, policies and procedures.
- Contributing to the development of sustainable and innovative engineering solutions that improve local transport networks.
About You
To be successful as a Senior Highway Engineer, you will ideally have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant post-qualification experience, or equivalent knowledge gained through practical experience within a highway or civil engineering design environment.
- Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer or Engineering Technician status, with membership of a relevant professional institution, or be actively working towards professional accreditation through a structured development plan.
- Extensive knowledge of current highway design standards, civil engineering specifications, contracts and CDM Regulations.
- Experience managing project budgets, financial reporting and programme performance.
- Proven experience delivering projects through all stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility and design through to construction and completion.
- Strong technical knowledge of highway design, drainage, pavement engineering and associated infrastructure.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive and collaborative approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
