Hybrid, typically 2 to 3 days per week in the officeI am recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join my client's established M&E design team, supporting a busy portfolio of rail infrastructure projects across stations and depots. I am specifically looking for someone with a building services design background, with experience designing HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling and associated mechanical systems. Previous rail experience would be beneficial but isn't essential.

I am equally interested in Mechanical Building Services Engineers from consultancy, commercial buildings or other technically complex environments who are keen to transfer their skills into major infrastructure.

Depot experience would be particularly valuable due to the current project pipeline.

What will you be doing?

Delivering mechanical building services designs for stations, depots and other infrastructure projectsDesigning HVAC, ventilation, heating and cooling systemsUndertaking mechanical calculations, equipment sizing and system selectionProducing specifications, calculations, drawings and other technical design documentationReviewing existing mechanical installations and developing upgrade or replacement solutionsSupporting surveys and assessments of existing assetsConsidering constructability, maintainability and integration with existing infrastructureCoordinating mechanical designs with electrical, civil, structural and other disciplinesSupporting projects through different stages of the design lifecycleWorking closely with clients and wider project teams to develop practical, technically compliant solutionsWhat am I looking for?

Mechanical engineering experience within building services designPractical design experience across HVAC, ventilation, heating and/or cooling systemsExperience producing mechanical calculations, specifications and technical documentationA good understanding of building services design principles and relevant standardsExperience working within a multidisciplinary design environmentRail experience preferred, not essential.

Ability to understand existing installations and develop practical engineering solutionsStrong technical, analytical and communication skillsAn interest in progressing professionally and working towards relevant professional registrationExperience within rail stations or depots would be advantageous, but isn't essential where you can demonstrate strong transferable building services design experience. xohmjla This is a good opportunity for a Mechanical Building Services Engineer looking to move into rail and infrastructure, or someone already within the sector who wants exposure to a varied pipeline of station and depot projects.
