Technical Director of Highways

Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple technical teams and senior managers delivering complex highways, asset management, and construction design services
- Shape and influence the strategic direction of the highways discipline alongside senior leadership
- Play a key role in winning new business and growing major client accounts at regional and national level
- Take ownership of bid strategy, working with multidisciplinary teams to develop competitive, high‑quality submissions
- Build and maintain senior‑level client relationships, influencing decisions and outcomes at the highest level
- Drive financial performance, including revenue growth, margin improvement, WIP control, and account success
- Recruit, develop, and inspire high‑performing engineering and technical teams
- Champion technical excellence, best practice, and governance across complex, high‑value infrastructure programmes
- Represent highways engineering expertise to clients, stakeholders, and industry partners
- Work closely with major infrastructure clients, local authorities, and private sector developers
- Influence the successful delivery of projects both on and off site, including live construction environments
Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Significant experience in senior technical leadership roles within highways or civil engineering
- A strong track record of delivering complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects
- Experience working with local authorities, developers, and/or major infrastructure clients
- The ability to oversee technical design, review, and assurance of engineering outputs
- Experience working within construction environments and live project delivery
- Strong understanding of design standards, codes, and CDM regulations
