Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our highways maintenance team, working as a key subcontractor on drainage and bridge refurbishment schemes. The role will involve managing multiple projects across live highway environments, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with strong technical and commercial awareness to play a pivotal role in the delivery of essential infrastructure works.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the delivery of highways maintenance projects with a focus on drainage works and bridge refurbishment
- Plan, programme, and coordinate works from pre‑construction through to completion
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements, including CDM regulations
- Liaise with clients, principal contractors, local authorities, designers, and supply chain partners
- Manage site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient project delivery
- Monitor progress against programme and budget, producing regular reports and forecasts
- Oversee quality assurance and ensure works are completed to specification and industry standards
- Identify and manage risks, variations, and change control
- Attend site meetings, progress meetings, and client reviews as required
- Support commercial activities including valuations, cost control, and final accounts
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Manager within highways maintenance or civil engineering
- Strong knowledge of drainage systems, bridge repairs, and refurbishment works
- Experience working as a subcontractor on highways or infrastructure projects
- Good understanding of NEC or similar forms of contract (desirable)
- SMSTS qualification (essential)
- CSCS card (essential)
- Strong organisational, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Temporary Works awareness or coordinator experience
- Experience working on live carriageways and under traffic management
