Location: Leeds or Sheffield + hybrid working and company car available following probation

Salary: £38,000 - £49,000 per annum DOE - this is not a definitive range, we would encourage candidates who require a higher salary to still apply as you will still be considered.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing civil engineering contractor delivering a range of rail infrastructure projects across the UK, who are seeking two Estimators to join the team, with opportunities available in both Leeds and Sheffield.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can hit the ground running, taking ownership of estimates from receipt of drawings and scope through to submission. The projects are predominantly rail civils-focused and include earthworks, embankment stabilisation, drainage, piling, soil nailing, scour remediation, and associated infrastructure works.

This role would suit someone with practical estimating experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to play a key role in securing future project opportunities.

Key Responsibilities for Estimator:

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil engineering and rail infrastructure projects.
  • Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Produce bills of quantities, schedules of rates, and supporting pricing documentation.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and build robust cost plans.
  • Assess project risks and opportunities during the tender process.
  • Support feasibility assessments and tender submissions.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure estimates reflect project delivery requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.

Requirements for Estimator:

  • Previous experience working as an Estimator within rail, civil engineering, infrastructure, or related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of earthworks, drainage, embankments, bridges, structures, piling, soil nailing, or similar civil engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently and manage estimates with minimal supervision.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • A Degree, HND, or HNC in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Typically 2-5 years of relevant estimating experience, although candidates with strong practical knowledge will also be considered.
  • Rail civils experience is highly desirable; candidates from highways, bridges, structures, or related civil engineering backgrounds will also be considered.
