Our market leading client is currently recruiting for a Senior HV Cable System Design Engineer to join their consultancy supporting major transmission and infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of an expanding HV Cables team, working on complex and high-profile onshore and offshore transmission projects within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
The Role
As a Senior HV Cable System Design Engineer, you will lead and support HV cable FEED and detailed design activities while also contributing to the wider growth of the business through client engagement, proposal preparation, and mentoring junior engineers. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including Primary, Secondary, Civil & Structural, and Project Management teams to successfully deliver major transmission-scale projects. The position offers flexibility in working location across Surrey, Birmingham, Leeds, or Glasgow, with hybrid and UK-wide travel opportunities as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead onshore and offshore HV cable FEED and detailed design works for major transmission projects
- Support and contribute to business development activities and strategic growth initiatives
- Prepare and support technical bids and proposals, including resource planning and cost estimation
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and identify future opportunities
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Attend client and project site visits where required
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the HV Cables team
- Support commissioning activities on transmission and EHV-scale projects
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Strong experience in HV cable system design, manufacture, testing, and installation
- Experience working on transmission and EHV-scale projects
- Familiarity with utility client specifications such as:
- National Grid
- SPEN
- SSEN
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Client-facing experience with a commercial and business development mindset
- Willingness to travel as required
