Are you an experienced Senior Environmental Manager looking to lead environmental assurance on one of Europe's largest infrastructure projects? Do you have the leadership skills to influence contractors, manage complex environmental issues and support the successful delivery of a multi-billion-pound programme?
Location: Greatworth/Banbury area, 3 days in office/on site per week, 2 from home.
HS2 is seeking a Senior Environment Manager to lead environmental assurance across a significant section of the route. This is a high-profile client-side leadership role, providing strategic oversight of environmental performance on one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes. You'll lead a small team, coordinate specialist technical expertise from across the business, and work closely with delivery partners to ensure environmental obligations are met while supporting the successful delivery of the project.
You’ll become the key environmental lead for your geographical area, supporting project delivery while ensuring contractors meet their environmental obligations and statutory requirements.
Essential Requirements:
- Significant environmental management experience on major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
- Previous leadership or line management experience.
- Experience working within client-side assurance, consultancy or principal contractor environments.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and environmental compliance.
- Experience managing complex environmental issues through to successful resolution.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to make balanced decisions and remain resilient when managing challenging situations.
- Full UK driving licence and vehicle.
Desirable:
- Chartered environmental professional or equivalent.
- Experience working with NEC contracts.
- Experience engaging with regulators such as the Environment Agency or similar statutory bodies.
- Rail, highways or other nationally significant infrastructure project experience.
This is an outstanding opportunity to play a key leadership role on one of the UK's most complex infrastructure projects. You'll oversee a broad and varied environmental portfolio, working across construction, ecology, landscape, water, archaeology, noise and environmental compliance while helping shape the successful delivery of HS2. The programme is expected to continue well beyond the current construction phase, offering excellent long-term career prospects and opportunities to progress within the wider organisation.
