Are you a Senior Security Systems Engineer or Security Consultant with experience managing formal technical interfaces across major projects? Do you understand physical and electronic security systems, but also have the experience to bring multiple contractors, designs and interfaces together within a structured engineering environment? Salary: Birmingham: £65,853.60 to £77,474.40 London: £71,121.60 to £83,672.40 Location: Birmingham or London, with hybrid working, 3 days per week in the office and 2 from home Closing date: 19th October I am recruiting a Senior Security Systems Engineer to join the Rail Systems Engineering team working on HS2. My client is looking for someone who combines a strong understanding of physical and electronic security systems with experience of formal design, interface and risk management on large, complex projects. This is less about being the person designing an individual CCTV or access control system and more about ensuring multiple systems, contractors and packages integrate successfully into the wider programme. You will work across Access Control, CCTV, Intruder Detection Systems, Video Management Systems and Physical Security Information Management systems, providing engineering assurance and coordinating interfaces across stations, depots and railway infrastructure. A major part of the role will be formal interface management. You will need to understand how responsibilities and scope are managed between different contractors, how interfaces are documented and agreed, and how technical issues, changes and risks are formally recorded, communicated and escalated. You will review contractor designs and deliverables, manage technical queries and interfaces, assess changes and advise project and commercial teams on their impact. I am particularly interested in candidates from major consultancies, end clients, Tier 1 contractors and established security systems integrators who have worked within structured project environments. Essential requirements Strong experience with physical and electronic security systems, particularly Access Control, CCTV and Intruder Detection Systems Experience working at Senior Security Consultant, Senior Security Systems Engineer or a comparable level Strong experience of formal interface management between contractors, disciplines or work packages Experience producing, managing or contributing to formal interface documentation and interface control processes Experience working within structured design and engineering management processes Experience formally identifying, recording, assessing and escalating project or technical risks, including consideration of impact and likelihood Experience with technical change control and assessing the wider impact of engineering changes Experience reviewing contractor designs and deliverables and providing engineering assurance Understanding of Technical Queries, early warnings and formal contractor communications Ability to translate technical issues and their project impacts for project managers, commercial teams and other non-technical stakeholders Good understanding of relevant security systems standards and specifications Understanding of how security systems interface with communications and other infrastructure systems Experience working through design and into implementation or installation Experience on major infrastructure, construction, transport, utilities, industrial or similarly complex commercial projects Strong stakeholder management skills with experience influencing contractors and multidisciplinary project teams Desirable requirements Rail industry experience Experience with organisations such as Network Rail, HS1, Crossrail or other major infrastructure end clients Consultancy experience Tier 1 contractor experience within organisations such as Siemens, Costain, Mitie or Telent Experience with established physical or electronic security systems integrators Experience setting technical or system requirements Experience coordinating interfaces between security systems and wider systems such as PA, communications, station systems, structures, cabling or other infrastructure Understanding of NEC contracts and major project delivery processes Experience working on projects valued in the tens or hundreds of millions of pounds This role is focused on physical and electronic security systems, not cyber or network security. I am looking for someone who understands systems such as CCTV, card-reader access control and intruder detection, but who can apply that knowledge within the formal engineering and project processes required on a programme of this scale. You do not need to be a dedicated Risk Manager or Systems Integration Manager. However, I am looking for someone who has personally worked with formal risk, interface and change processes rather than simply raising issues for somebody else to document and manage. The technical knowledge is important, but equally important is your ability to take individual systems and contractor packages and ensure they integrate into a coordinated, assured and operational whole. If you are a Senior Security Consultant or Senior Security Systems Engineer with strong physical security systems knowledge and experience of formal interface management on major projects, I would be keen to hear from you.
